What is eSIM
The next generation SIM or eSIM simply means embedded SIM card. There are no physical SIM cards involved and no physical swapping over required by you.
eSIM needs to be supported by the network or carrier and enable by them for your new iPhone XS or XS Max you’ll need to choose an eSIM-compatible network for the second SIM support.
An eSIM is a small chip inside your phone in which the information is re-writable, which means you can decide to change operator with a simple phone call.
When did the eSIM first came
The first time we came across this hardware in person was in the Samsung Gear 3G in 2016. However, it was the Apple Watch 3 that really brought eSIM technology into the spotlight.

Now a days Airtel is offering eSIMs service in India. Airtel has tied up with Apple watch series 3 to start eSIMs service and has given the option to apple users to use the second SIM in the form of eSIMs. eSIMs is the latest development in the telecom industry in the developing countries like India.
