Redmi is now an independent brand. Phones like the Redmi Note 7, the Redmi Note 7 Pro, the Redmi 7 are all launched under the brand Redmi. Xiaomi's sub-brand Redmi is now gearing up to launch its first ever flagship phone with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chipset. A new leak now suggests that alongside the Redmi flagship phone the company is also gearing up to launch a new laptop under the Redmi brand.
Earlier this week, Tang Mu, General Manager of Xiaomi Smart Hardware Division took to the Chinese microblogging site, Weibo, to talk about the Redmi flagship and its launch event date. He hinted that the Redmi flagship with Snapdragon 855 will launch on May 13 alongside 'one more thing'. The second product, until now, was expected to be a new smart home product. But now, a new leak coming from a Twitter user who goes by the name "Sudhanshu Ambhore" reveals that the second product is actually a Redmi laptop.
Ambhore reveals this bit of information via a tweet that noted, "#Redmi will also release their Laptops under #Redmi branding (like #Xiaomi's Mi Notebook) with their flagship phone." Notably, Xiaomi is yet to reveal details about the Redmi laptop. Until now, we have seen Xiaomi launching laptops or Notebooks under its Mi brand. If this information turns out to be true then this will be the first laptop to come under the Redmi brand.
The leak also reveals some more details about the Redmi laptop. It suggests that the Redmi laptop will be affordable similar to its phones. Considering Mi Notebooks are exclusive to China, we expect that the Redmi laptop to also be available only in the company's home market. This suggests that India will not get the Redmi laptop.
In addition to the Redmi laptop, the company is also expected to launch (finally) Redmi flagship on May 13 in China. The Redmi flagship is expected to come with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, 32MP pop-up camera, triple rear cameras, 4000mAh battery, gradient glass finish, all screen, among other things. As of yet, there are no details whether the Redmi flagship will come to India or not. Xiaomi India MD Manu Jain recently tipped that a Snapdragon 730 SoC phone is coming to India very soon.
