MacBook Air 2018 release - Apple could give fans the upgrades they have been waiting for

The MacBook Air remains an incredibly popular laptop with its low price combined with a thin and lightweight form-factor being a huge selling point of the device.
Although Apple has since released a new "MacBook" that is also thin, lightweight and capable, it still sells the MacBook Air.

However, this laptop has not seen a major internal refresh since 2015 with it still featuring an older processor and a display that doesn't include Apple's pin-sharp Retina technology.
Now a new report from Bloomberg insists Apple is planning a major refresh for the MacBook Air "later this year".

Citing people "familiar with the plans", the publication declared the design of the new MacBook Air will be extremely reminiscent of the current model but will tout thinner bezels and harness Apple's lauded Retina display technology.

Cross Research analyst Shannon Cross told the outlet a "form-factor" change was "necessary" for Apple to remain competitive against competing products at the same price-point.

She said: "HP and Lenovo have released products priced similarly to the MacBook Air, gaining share, and in order to remain competitive in that price point, we think a form-factor change is necessary.

"It should help them rebound some of their Mac sales as things have been getting a bit long on the tooth in terms of their Mac line as they’ve clearly been very focused on the iPhone and services businesses."

Although it is presumed a redesign of the MacBook Air would introduce newer internal components, such details were not discussed by people claiming to be familiar with the matter.

But they declared Apple is also planning to refresh the Mac mini, adding the Cupertino-based behemoth was planning to focus on "pro users" with the newest upgrade.
The report insisted fans of the miniature computer will be treated to new processor and storage options.

But it continued by warning prices of the product may increase to compensate for better internals.

Apple has previously debuted new Macs in October, so an announcement of the alleged forthcoming hardware may be coming very soon.

The firm also recently refreshed its top-end MacBook Pro machines which now include much faster processors, True Tone screens and a refreshed keyboard which is quieter to type on.

Ahead of computer announcements, Apple is also expected to unveil new iPhones next month with rumours indicating the company could be planning to release three new models.

There's no official confirmation of a launch but it seems there will be a trio of devices unveiled at the famous September keynote.
Rumours suggest the iPhone line-up will include an updated iPhone X along with a larger iPhone X Plus and a cheaper all-screen phone that will include lower specs at a reduced price.
