In Short: Microsoft has just announced that a really useful feature is coming to its Excel app for Android, it will allow you to convert images into spreadsheets. This is an immensely useful feature, as you can basically take a picture of some sort of a spreadsheet, and the app will automatically create a digital spreadsheet for you to edit. Needlessly to say, this may save you a ton of time, as creating a new spreadsheet from scratch based on a real-life spreadsheet can take quite a while. This feature will work with both printed and hand-drawn spreadsheets, and the company has said that it’s called ‘Insert Data from Picture’ feature. This feature will become available in preview for the Excel for Android soon, though the company did not say when exactly will it roll out. If you’d like to get this feature as part of a preview, you’ll need to be enrolled in the Office 365 Insiders Program, of course.

Background: Microsoft Excel has been available on Android for a long time, along with other apps from Microsoft’s Office package, including both Word and PowerPoint applications. Microsoft Excel allows you to create spreadsheets with ease, similar to Google’s Sheets app. Microsoft Excel is free to download an use on Android, and it currently has over 500 million downloads on the platform. The app currently holds a 4.5-star rating in the Play Store, and it comes with a ton of features, though you will need an Office 365 subscription to access all of them.

Impact: The company did not release a new feature for Microsoft Excel in quite some time now, though, but this feature definitely makes up for it, especially if it ends up working as well as Microsoft claims it will. This feature will hit the preview version of Microsoft Excel first, but it will hopefully roll out to the stable build in the near future as well.
