Mobile radiation is harmful to you

Mobile radiation is bad for your health. You can’t really be away from your for so long unless you are asleep. Mobile phones emit radiofrequency energy(low frequency) which is of non-ionizing nature. The non-ionizing radiations are less likely to cause cancer. But looking at the increased numbers of hours of talking, you can’t be hundred percent assured that you will be safe by continuing your heavy usage of phones. Some studies have found a clear correlation between cancer and heavy usage of cell phones.

Precaution is better than cure. So let’s look at 10 best practices which can save you from harmful effects of mobile radiations. By following the tips below you can enjoy services on your mobile without risking your health.

1. Check specific absorption rate (SAR)

When you are in the market to buy a new phone, check the SAR value. If the SAR value is below or equal to 1.6 W/kg then you are good to go. Many brands with high SAR value do not mention the SAR value if it is near 1.6 W/kg. Try to purchase phones with SAR value than the maximum value. Lower the SAR, better for you.

2. Keep the phone away from you

The phone should not touch or be near to your head or body when you sleep. When you are talking the minimum distance between your phone and your head/ body should be 10mm or more. Avoid keeping the phone in your shirt’s front pocket or near your chest.

3. Prefer messages over calls

While many free messengers like What’s app, Hike, and Telegram are around, you need not call or receive a call to communicate. Many service providers are offering free SMS plan with the internet plan. When you don’t have an internet connection, you can always send messages to your dear ones.

4. Use wired headsets with mic

Using earphones (the wired one) is always good practice when you need to talk for a longer duration. If you don’t use the headsets while longer talks on the phone then you are exposing your head to radiations for a longer duration. So headsets are not just made to enjoy your favorite track, you should use them for making calls as well.

If you are in your home then you can talk on speaker mode as well in case you don’t like wearing earphones every time you get a call.

5. Finish your conversation as early as possible

Always remember that if you talk for a longer duration, you are risking your health for a conversation which may be not that essential. Shorter the call, lesser will be your body exposed to radiation. Prefer What’s App calls (video/audio). If the person on other side is your so close friend or relative then video calls will be a great alternative. You can develop a healthy relationship with him/her if you both can see each other.

6. Don’t give your phone to kids unless it’s emergency

Many times you must have faced a situation in which kids ask your phone to play “Temple Run” on it. You should never give your phone to kids for a longer duration. Even if you give your phone to a kid for hours then make sure that your phone is in airplane mode. Cell phone’s radiations penetrate deeper in kids than it does in case of adults. Avoid them to pick up any call unless it’s an emergency situation.

7. Try to keep phones on both sides of the head for the small duration

People keep the phone in just one side of the head for too long. This also leads to hand pain sometimes. If you switch both the sides of the head during a call, you will prevent exposure of one side of the head for long. You can also divide long calls in chunks if possible.

8. Use only when the signal is good

Most of us ignore the signal strength and start calling or receiving a call. While traveling in bus/train you may face a situation when the signal becomes too weak. Also sometimes in some villages/less developed area, you can face the weak signal problem. Never try to call or receive a call in such situations unless it’s very much necessary. In such situations, mobile phones increase their transmitting power in an attempt to connect to the nearest cell tower. You don’t just get more radiations, your phone’s battery drains faster as well.

9. Avoid keeping the phone near ear unless the connection is completed

The time when the connection is not established, the phone emits the most intense radiation. If you don’t put the phone near your ears for a couple of seconds, you reduce the exposure level by a considerable amount.

10. Airplane mode

By using airplane mode, you can be sure that you are not being penetrated by any king of radiation when you are sleeping. If you can’t keep your phone in airplane-mode, keep it at least 10 meters away from your sleeping area. Not only during sleeping time, you can keep your phone in airplane mode while you don’t need any calls or Sms.
