Some of these features have been spotted on the beta versions of the app giving us a glimpse into what the future holds for WhatsApp.
Popular messaging platform WhatsApp has grown in popularity over the years because of its relentless pursuit for evolution. From its humble beginnings almost a decade ago, the app today has over a billion users who use it daily for sending tens of billion text, images, and videos messages to family and business contacts.
A major reason behind this has been the fact that WhatsApp has introduced a lot of new features which have helped the Facebook-owned platform become such a fan favorite. However, the company is looking to add to the list of existing blockbuster features.
Some of these features have been spotted on the beta versions of the app giving us a glimpse into what the future holds for us. Here are five cool features that are coming to the platform.
In-app browser
WhatsApp beta for Android has been recently spotted to feature an in-app browser according to WABetaInfo. The feature still in testing phase works when a user taps on a link shared within a chat after which WhatsApp launches the in-app browser. The report also added that if a user opts for the in-app browser, their search history won’t be accessible to either WhatsApp or Facebook since the feature users Application Programming Interface (API).
WhatsApp payment
Although under development for a long time, and even rolled out to select users since its launch last year, WhatsApp payments is could soon be coming to all users of the platform in India and abroad. According to Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of WhatsApp's parent company Facebook, the feature will soon be announced globally.
WhatsApp Dark Mode
WhatsApp is working on a new feature called "Dark Mode" or also mentioned in some places as the "Night Mode". Basically, the new mode will darken the app interface instead of the white and UFO green color scheme we have been looking at since the introduction of this app.
In a tweet by WAABetaInfo, there are a number of WhatsApp users who have been finding the Dark Mode in some sections of the app. However, WABetaInfo has stated that the beta version has a lot of bugs which the company is fixing to ensure the feature can soon be rolled out as part of a stable update.
No saving of DPs
The beta update of WhatsApp has also hinted how the platform is looking at privacy-centric features to improve how we interact with the app. As such with the latest beta update, WhatsApp has brought to Android and iOS a new privacy feature that removes the ability to save or screenshot display pictures.
The removal of the ability to take screenshots, or save display pictures is a welcome move as it adds to the growing calls for the platform to be more secure and private. WhatsApp's creators have been working towards making the platform a more private and secure environment for its users. And this move works towards that goal.
Animated stickers for WhatsApp
According to a report by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp users will soon be able to share animated WhatsApp stickers through their Android smartphones, iPhones as well as through WhatsApp web. Moreover, the Animated WhatsApp Stickers will be played for a few seconds unlike Gifs and the platform is highly likely to come with support for third-party apps just like the conventional stickers feature.
